Our selection for Winter Book Club is Mother of Strangers by Suad Amiry.
Mother of Strangers by Suad Amiry is a historical novel based on a true story, set in Jaffa between 1947 and 1951, that follows the lives of two teenagers, Subhi and Shams, during the displacement of Palestinians(the Nakba). The book portrays the vibrant life of the city before the conflict and the devastating impact of war, exploring themes of young love, loss, and survival as families are torn apart and people become refugees in their own land. It's described as a darkly humorous, moving, and powerful account of a significant and often overlooked chapter in Palestinian history.
