Cooking and Conversation

What’s been important to us over the past few weeks is making sure you have information about what is happening in Palestinian refugee communities. We want to thank many of you for your questions, engagement, and concern.

We also want to do a fun activity that highlights Palestinian culture and that we can do together!

The producers of Soufra have made the movie available to rent online and stream. Soufra means “feast” in Arabic. It is a documentary about a group of refugee women from Burj El-Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon who start a catering business. The movie is the shows the reality of life and is incredibly well done.

Rent the movie next week. It is suitable for entire families and really is a story of hope in the midst of setbacks. And I think we all could use a little hope. You’ll also learn about life for refugees in permanent refugee camps in the Middle East. And you’ll learn about food and culture. That’s the best part!

On Monday April 20th at 7pm we’ll meet online to make one of the recipes from the cookbook that they have made available and debrief the movie. The producers have made one of the recipes available online along with educational material to use with children.

Listed below are links for the movie, recipe, and educational material. I know many of you have already seen the movie, so join us on Monday April 20th to debrief and make a simple dessert from the cookbook.

Download the movie, make sure you have the ingredients for the recipe, and join us on April 20th at 7pm.
